President - Scott Livingston, B.Sc., CATC, CSCS
Scott became a Certified Athletic Therapist in 1988, after graduating from Concordia University’s Exercise Science program. While working as a clinical therapist, he achieved his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Then, in 1990, he was hired at Concordia University as one of the first full time Strength and Conditioning Coaches at a Canadian University. While he worked there, he was instrumental in setting the standard for training practices at the elite varsity level, and independently fundraised, created and assembled the varsity weight training centre. This, while fulfilling his additional role of assistant head athletic therapist for the nine years he remained at Concordia.
He was also a part time faculty member in Concordia’s Exercise Science Department teaching many courses throughout the Athletic Therapy curriculum. On his initiative, a third year course was developed and designed to teach the “Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning”.
Scott’s first love is teaching. There is nothing he enjoys more than sharing knowledge with others and helping young people develop professionally. Over the years he has been a guest speaker at many conferences and courses. He has developed many courses including “Reconditioning of the Upper Quadrant”, “Reconditioning of the Lower Quadrant”, and “Muscle Energy and Reconditioning of the Lumbar Spine and Pelvis”, a course he shares with colleague Dave Campbell BSc, CAT(C), DO.Q.
In 1998 Scott began his career as an NHL Strength and Conditioning Coach when he was hired by the New York Islanders. After one year, he moved to the New York Rangers, where he spent 2 years as Conditioning Coach, and then accepted a position with the Montreal Canadiens, returning back to his roots, as both a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Athletic Therapist. During his professional hockey career, Scott has learned about professional sport and what it takes to compete at that level. His skills have continually developed with the challenges of constantly rebuilding high performance athletes, and he applies these skills to all the clients he works with in our facility.
Over the years Scott has developed a unique method of assessing an athlete’s dynamic posture, allowing him to determine any physical imbalances that may lead to or are creating injury. Along with this he applies a mix of assessment strategies, soft tissue release techniques, manual stretches, and strength and flexibility exercises to address an athlete’s physical problems. He most enjoys the challenge of rebuilding an athlete from the ground up, and taking them to athletic levels they never thought they could achieve. Scott has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he brings to the table each time he trains a client. Let him help you achieve your goals!
“Scotty is an amazing strength and conditioning coach because not only did he develop a specific training program to get me ready to compete at an NHL level, but he rebuilt me from an abdominal tear, a shoulder subluxation repair, and a fractured wrist. Throughout all of these injuries he fixed the damage, kept me on course and finished every time by making me srtonger and fitter than I was before.”
